Ephesus Courts Current Status

By June 1, 2020 Announcements
Pickleball Enthusiasts,

CH Parks and Recreation has announced that our beloved Ephesus Pickleball Courts will reopen this coming Thursday, 5/28, for drop-in play. However, hours MAY be restricted and only singles play will be permitted.  In addition, park monitors will be present to answer questions and to advise individuals in safe play guidelines. Also,  USAPA Safe Play, Avoid Sharing Equipment Surfaces Guidelines will be posted at the park.

For details please refer to P&R’s announcement:

As per the announcement:  “The safety of park users and our staff is our top priority. While you seek to enjoy the outdoors, it is important that you are conscious of your personal space and respect the space of others. We have posted “physical distancing” signs at our parks to remind residents to keep a safe 6 feet distance from others. Park monitors are also available at our busier parks in order to share information and remind users of the need for physical distancing”

All players are urged to bring hand sanitizer and other supplies to disinfect surfaces before and after use. Bringing  your own chair is recommended. Social distancing strongly encouraged as is the use of your on marked ball for serving.  Also when returning a missed ball use your foot or paddle to return it to the server.  In other words,  to minimize cross contamination we recommend only serving with your own ball and only returning any other ball with your foot or paddle. At the end of every game disinfect your paddle face and your ball.

Rest rooms will be open only from noon to 8 pm. Remember, any common point of contact is suspect. Be especially alert and careful when using  gate latches, bathroom door handles, seating, water faucet handles,  picnic tables and benches. The corona virus is very infectious BEFORE there are symptoms, so even if you feel okay, you may unknowingly be infectious. Staying 6 feet apart helps keep everyone safe.  And by all means if you feel ill or believe you  may have been exposed to the virus please stay home and away from the courts! We’re all in this together. Now more than ever our individual choices can adversely affect many others.

During this period of corona court adjustment we want to remind you that many of our familiar pickleball social conventions will need to be superseded by common sense safety practices. For example, no gathering in close groups to talk. Social distancing is our new mantra.  No touching paddles together at a game’s end. Rather, wave your paddle, give a thumb’s up or give verbal acknowledgment of appreciation for your game. No use of the sign up board…or of “stacking paddles”.  We’ll have to settle on some other means of player/court selection.

We will update you when we hear more from P&R.

Enhanced courtesy, constant corona common sense and respect for all players at all times is the new normal during this transition to full doubles play.

Hope to see you on the courts soon.
