Pickleball Caring And Community

By September 20, 2019 Announcements

Pickleballers

Many of you who know and who have played pickleball with Chris Hartstein might have noticed that she has not been on the courts for a while. This note is to inform you of Chris’s situation and to encourage you to reach out to Chris and Valerie, her partner, with your care and support during their current health challenge.

Chris’s Situation

On July 25th Chris was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adrenal Cancer along with Cushing’s disease. As per Valerie, “Chris not only has had double strong rounds of Stage IV chemo that are specialized for this rare cancer, but she has also had large doses of oral chemo that she stays on daily.” She is basically in and out of the hospital every week. And, if she is physically up to it, will undergo a second round of chemo next week.

As you can imagine this health challenge has been a sudden, sharp shock for both Chris and Valerie. But as Valerie affirms, “Chris is a fighter and is doing her best in this situation.”

What You Can Do

Valerie has encouraged this outreach and the information I share with you. As per her restrictions, Chris is not up to visitors. But you can send her an email or text via the links below:

email: chartstein13@gmail.com

Phone: 740-357-0158 (no calls, text only)

Or, if you wish to send her a card or note:

Chris Hartstein
311 Winward Pointe Drive
Durham, NC. 27703

According to Valerie, “we just need as many people as possible to send good thoughts and prayers in Chris’s direction. If anyone wants to send her a text, email or note to give her something cheerful and positive that would be great.” But please, no visitors. Chris’s condition is very delicate.

I encourage the pickleball community to reach out with your support, caring and offers of assistance to both Chris and Valerie during the current challenge they face. We can make a difference. Your personal effort multiplied by the efforts of others will speak loudly for the community we represent on and off the court.

Both Chris and Valerie would cherish your support. And we’ll all be the better for expressing our collective caring.

See you on the courts,

JB Marr
