Safety on the courts and recent player suspension

By May 5, 2017 Announcements

Pickleball Enthusiasts,

Last week we were sorry to learn that P&R had banned a member of our pickleball community for 6 months from Chapel Hill P&R pickleball facilities. P&R shared that this rarely occurs, and was due to multiple incident reports over the past year resulting in the ban. Players may return to play after being banned if they do not incur additional infractions. For more information about this action, or banning of players in general, please contact Jim Orr, P&R director at (919-968-2785).

While it is disappointing for one of our community to be banned, we appreciate that P&R is working to keep play at our public facilities safe for all players. Please review the information on safety and etiquette on our website

Etiquette

We want everyone to have a positive experience while on the courts, and to feel safe at all times. If you experience conditions where you feel intimidated, threatened or unsafe, please follow the guidelines (these were developed in conjunction with P&R, and are the first item listed under safety & courtesy on the webpage above).

If in any way you feel intimidated, threatened or unsafe at the courts, we want to know this! If there is immediate danger or concern, or someone is hurt, please call 911. Otherwise, please report it to the director of Parks and Recreation (Jim Orr, 919-968-2785). If you’re comfortable doing so, it can be helpful to address with the offending person at the courts so they are aware of effect their behavior is having. You can also email or speak to the ambassadors to ask them to help with addressing bad behaviors at the courts. We want everyone to feel welcome and safe.
Join us in helping make pickleball a wonderful experience for everyone at the courts!
