NC SENIOR GAMES

Did you know the NC Senior Games has been the Largest Senior Olympic Program in the nation for the past 30 years? The games began in NC in 1983 with a vision to create a year-round health promotion and wellness education program for adults over 50. And this year over fifty different games will be played statewide in all 100 NC counties.

You can be a part of this year’s Senior Games by registering to play Pickleball right here on our Ephesus Courts on April 8-9. Men’s and Women’s Doubles as well as Mixed Doubles will be played by age ranking (within five year increments) to determine just who qualifies to play in the Senior Games State Finals in Concord, NC, October 17-20.

The Senior Games are FUN and exciting. And locally you’ll likely be playing with those you see on the courts in Chapel Hill every day. Every entrant gets a t-shirt. Top winners in each age category get the right to compete for State Finals matches in Concord.

Local pre-registration for the games will begin shortly with forms available at the CH Community Center and other locations about the area. But you can also check out this year’s planning and other details for the Senior Games at this link:

MISSING PADDLE

Someone left their Gamma Voltage paddle on the Ephesus Courts on Tuesday morning. See or write JB at jmarr.jr@gmail.com to reclaim your paddle.

PLAYING UP. PLAYING DOWN.

“One of the best ways to improve your pickleball game is to play with better players. It forces you to play at the top of your ability, makes you pay for your mistakes, and puts you on the fast-track to a higher skill level. All of that is GREAT for you, but how about for those “better players” who are playing with you? It does almost the OPPOSITE for them – playing with you keeps them from having to play at the top of their ability, keeps them from paying for their mistakes, and keeps them from improving their skill level as quickly. But everyone’s gotta start from somewhere, and even the best players in the world were beginners at one point.”

The link below from pickleball educator, Prem Carnot, addresses this issue and offers an enlightened, thoughtful approach to accommodate the play differences between differently skilled pickleball players. Highly recommended!

How to Graciously Get to Play with Better Players (a.k.a. How to Make Sure You’re NOT That Person Everyone Hates Playing With)

See you on the courts.
