GO BACK AND REREAD ALL MY OTHER TIPS AND THINK ABOUT EACH ONE BEFORE YOU BEGIN PLAYING YOUR NEXT MATCH.

Yesterday, I played two games with a friend and we got killed in the first one. I mean killed, killed, killed. Before we played the same opponents again he asked my advice on what he was doing wrong. My answer to him was as follows: “You are getting to the kitchen line real well but when you get there–ready for battle–your armor is down and you quickly loose your advantage. Our opponents were hitting hard at him and because his paddle, or armor, was down by his knees he just could not react fast enough to get a good offensive strike.

A simple, basic concept everyone including myself talks about constantly but is often forgotten at great cost. Our next game began and he went from disaster to destroyer in a blink of an eye. It was easy for him to change because he had done it before but just forgot about the basics. There are several basics I recommend you tattoo on the inside of your eye lids. If you reflect on these before every game you will be better fast.

In golf these are called keys to focus on. One of Tiger Woods keys when he is teeing off is “Low and slow and watch it go.”. I added “Accelerate to hit it great” and I now say that to myself every time I tee up to hit a drive. I don’t quite understand why it worked much better for Tiger than me but, oh, to be 20 again with that mantra.Sorry about the digression but it’s important that you think about your game before you go out there into battle.

Below are a couple of pickleball mantras to think about. If you know one or come up with one of your own let me know. I would love to use it. Go back to these basics and move your game forward again.
1. Going forward into battle get your armor up.
2. Deep-Deep-Dink
